Billing & subscriptions

Last updated June 23, 2026

Cancelling and getting a refund work differently depending on where you originally signed up for your subscription — on the web, or in the iOS app. This is the one thing to get right, because it’s not about the device you’re holding now. Plenty of people sign up on the web and also use the iPhone app; if that’s you, you’re on the web rail below.

Not sure which one you are? If you ever entered card details on a Unicorn Money web page, you signed up on the web. If you tapped a price and confirmed with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple password, you signed up through Apple.

Subscribed on the web?

Your subscription is billed through Stripe, and you manage it yourself.

To cancel: open Manage your subscription in the app (button below). That opens the Stripe Customer Portal, where you can cancel in a couple of taps. Your plan stays active through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.

Refunds: we handle these directly. If something went wrong — a charge you didn’t expect, a problem we caused — email support and we’ll make it right.

Subscribed in the iOS app?

Your subscription is an Apple In-App Purchase, which means Apple owns the billing — we can’t reach into it from our side.

To cancel: this happens in your Apple ID settings, not in Unicorn Money. On your iPhone: open Settings → tap your name → SubscriptionsUnicorn MoneyCancel Subscription. As with the web, you keep access through the end of the paid period.

Refunds: Apple handles every IAP refund — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot refund an Apple In-App Purchase ourselves. We don’t receive that money directly and we have no control over Apple’s refund decisions; please don’t wait on us for it. We’re glad to help you figure out the request, but the decision is Apple’s.

On both rails: cancelling is not refunding

One thing that trips people up regardless of where they signed up: cancelling stops the next charge — it doesn’t refund the current one. When you cancel, you keep access until the period you’ve already paid for runs out, and you simply aren’t billed again. If you’re after money back for a charge that already happened, that’s a separate refund request — through us (web) or through Apple (iOS), as above.

Still unsure which rail you’re on, or something doesn’t look right? Get in touch and we’ll sort it out with you.
